Hardy Managed Portfolios now available on Parmenion

It’s a significant step for us, and we think it’s a good fit. As a boutique firm we have to think carefully before expanding our distribution, as we don’t want to damage the high service levels we already deliver to our existing clients and financial advisers. However, for reasons that go beyond simply adding a platform to the list, we are excited to be added to the Parmenion platform.

It’s clear for us to see that Parmenion continues to build a strong reputation as a leading platform of choice for a growing number of financial advisers who are genuinely focused on delivering the right outcomes for their clients. I find these are advisers who look under the bonnet. They ask sensible questions about the reliability, system processes, robustness and financial security when doing their due diligence on platforms. Similarly, they are just as interested in how portfolios are constructed, how risk is managed, and what really sits behind the numbers. That’s exactly the conversation we enjoy having.

The decision to make Hardy available on Parmenion wasn’t one we arrived at alone. We were approached by advisers using the platform who wanted access to the Hardy range for their clients. That kind of demand is exciting and tells us that advisers have identified Hardy as a proposition worth having. We’re pleased to have responded to that, and we’re looking forward to working with those advisers and the wider Parmenion network.

The Hardy Managed Portfolio range is made up from seven portfolios (five growth-oriented, two income-focused). Actively managed and multi-asset in style, with a particular emphasis on capital preservation and the needs of clients in or approaching drawdown.

But what genuinely sets Hardy apart is the investment DNA behind it.

Look under the bonnet of most MPS ranges and you’ll find they are, in composition, startlingly similar. That’s no accident. Large MPS propositions are built to compete closely with one another – jockeying for position, hugging benchmarks, and keeping performance close to the peer group to protect commercial interests.

Hardy is built on a different premise entirely. We don’t watch what our competitors are doing and position accordingly. We invest based on where our research, experience, and conviction take us. If our asset allocation looks different from the peer group, or we hold funds less commonly found in mainstream MPS offerings, that’s not a concern, it’s an advantage. It means we’ve identified an opportunity the wider market hasn’t yet fully recognised. Because that, in our view, is what active management is actually for.

Most managed portfolio services are also built around a risk score. Portfolios are constructed to stay within a number, and investment decisions flow from that constraint. We think that’s the wrong way round – investing by numbers rather than investing for clients. Yes, Hardy portfolios sit within defined risk buckets, but we don’t actively manage to hit them. We invest based on where the evidence points, not where an external agency tells us to.
